Buried Secrets

I’m pleased to inform you that a revamped and improved version of my translated work, Buried Secrets, is now available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. Here is a snippet from the novel.

“Now, here is what I need to discuss with you.” Count Rallion stated as he reached for a new cigarette and lit it while assuming his most diplomatic expression for Lemarch’s benefit. “We in the government feel the necessity,” he continued, “to consider the possibility of an imminent war with Germany. Unlike last time, we’re not assuming we can just barge in blindly. We’ll have to take our time getting acquainted with the full circumstances. It stands to reason that the Prussians are shrewd enough to deduce our intentions and prudent enough to plan for contingencies. We need to be absolutely certain in these matters, and we need to ascertain the following: first, if they are aware of our plans, and second, what countermeasures they intend to carry out. Are you following me?”

“Completely, sir!” affirmed the cavalry master.

“Of course, we couldn’t place such a delicate assignment in the hands of the diplomatic corps. We require another, less obvious way, one which is more discreet. The mission must be given to a man who, aside from his vast military knowledge, possesses intelligence, discernment, and courage to outsmart the enemy. It is our intention to send such a man with the necessary documentation and recommendations to Berlin. He will be briefed in how to conduct himself. He will have money at his disposal, first to satisfy his personal expenditures, since he’ll need to appear respectable, but then also for other, unforeseen demands. A situation could arise that may necessitate a small bribe or something of the kind. This man must be clever, as well as tactful and daring. Yet also prudent! His assignment probably won’t be an easy one, but the rewards will outweigh the risks.” Rallion paused, looking appraisingly at Lemarch. “You have been recommended to me, Captain. What is your response?”

When Lemarch gave his answer, it was as unequivocal. “I will embrace this opportunity to serve France with distinction! I give you my word that I will do anything and everything in my power to reach my goal in this assignment.”
